Monsoon harvest

Posted: Tuesday, September 29, 2009 11:00 pm

Dave Perry/The Explorer, Harvesting has begun at Steam Pump Ranch, where the Oro Valley Historical Society planted a Native American heritage garden this summer. Joyce Rychener, left, who's done daily work to raise the "three sisters" — corn, beans and squash — watched as the historical society's Pat Spoerl revealed an ear of corn last Friday. At center is Bill Adler, who provided the "seed" money for the native garden. Harvesting has occurred in the "monsoon" garden; a winter garden is being planted in a circle north of the Steam Pump houses.
