SaddleBrooke Community Outreach conducts its 12th-annual walk-a-thon on Saturday, Oct. 18.
The 8 a.m. walk-a-thon, the outreach’s “most popular annual event,” helps raise money for a number of causes supported by the non-profit group.
This year’s theme is “Reaching for the Stars.” A year ago, nearly 400 people participated.
It is two walks, one about 1.5 miles, the other three miles, beginning and ending at the MountainView Clubhouse, 38759 S. MountainView Blvd., in SaddleBrooke.
It ends with breakfast and awards.
SaddleBrooke Community Outreach “is dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of schoolchildren in our neighboring communities through improved self-respect, better school attendance and higher scholastic achievement,” a release said.
Last year, funds were used to provide clothing for more than 3,800 children, tutor nearly 1,000 students and award college scholarships.
Mary Kay Stein is SaddleBrooke Community Outreach’s vice president for special events.
