Annoyed with government

Posted

When did it become acceptable for government at any level to harass, intimidate and malign law abiding citizens; to demand to know what they pray about and who they worship with? When an agency of government abuses its authority we the people, in order to form a more perfect union, can eliminate it.

Once trust is shattered, as in the case with the IRS scandal unfolding, we have little choice but to replace such an agency with a new, more secure, more limited authority. It is time for serious dialog about real tax reform like for example the fair tax, a consumption tax where the wealthy who spend more pay more.

The revelation that the IRS has been singling out and harassing religious and conservative organizations comes at a time when Congress is handing off even more power to unelected and unaccountable officials in the executive Branch. From health care insurance to the amnesty bill, leadership is giving decision-making authority for almost all areas of our healthcare and immigration policies to people like the secretary of homeland security. You do remember no answers Janet Napolitano right? The secretary, nominated for that position never has to face voters or be in any way directly accountable to the American public.

This scandal at the IRS has taught us, it’s that we need to rein in the federal government and make it more accountable to us. The IRS’s abuse of power highlights why the Senate must turn toward limited government for us all.
