With the summer coming to an end and school on the horizon, it is important not to lose focus on one of the more important items during the summer months, pool safety. August is drowning impact awareness month and it is important to keep pool safety in the front of our minds as the summer winds down. Every pool or spa owner and user should remember and follow the ABC’s of Pool Safety that our friends at Safe Kids have provided.

A – Adult supervision. Adult should maintain continuous eye contact with all children in a pool, hot tub, or spa at all times.

B – Barriers. All pools, hot tubs, and spas should have barriers around them that include self locking features such as gates and covers.

C – Classes. Children should participate in swimming lessons and adults should receive training in CPR.

For more information on the ABC’s of Pool Safety, you can visit the Safe Kids website at www.tmcaz.com/Community/SafeKidsPimaCounty.

Studies at the American Heart Association have shown that early access to CPR and defibrillation are key to surviving a cardiac arrest. Golder Ranch Fire District is proud to offer classes every month in CPR, at varying certification levels. District residents are offered a discount to receive this very important training. For more information on CPR classes, please visit our website at www.grfdaz.gov.

As our monsoon season is upon us, we would also like to remind to stay safe in the event of severe weather. Simple steps include not driving across flooded roadways, keeping flashlights in your home, and getting indoors during a storm will help keep you safe during our rainy season.
