Dental Trauma: What to do if your child knocks out a permanent tooth
Posted: November 20, 2013 - 2:15 pm

The first thing to consider about trauma to the teeth is prevention. If your child is playing contact sports, he or she should be wearing a mouthguard. That said, accidents do happen. If your child knocks out a permanent tooth, a timely response is very important. Call your dentist to let them know what happened. Find the tooth, hold it by the crown (not the root) and rinse it off. Do not rub the root or scrub it. Try to put the tooth back into its socket and hold it in place. If this is something you can’t do, you want to store it in milk or sterile saline solution. If you don’t have either of these, the tooth can be stored in the cheek (don’t swallow!) until you get to the dentist.

Are mice really giving up cheese?  If you are thinking, “Why, this is absurd”, then you would be correct.  This is not some new government mandated health and wellness initiative aimed at creating healthier eating habits for our cute, little rodent friends. It is, however, a metaphor designed to illustrate the frustration millions of Americans experience when it comes to getting and staying fit.

At what age should my child have their first orthodontic check-up?
Updated: January 16, 2013 - 10:26 am

The American Association of Orthodontist recommends that your child get their first orthodontic check-up at age 7. The reason for this, is that the adult front teeth (incisors) and the first set of adult molars should be grown in by this time. By looking at how these adult teeth relate to each other, the orthodontist is able to make a good determination about how the teeth are developing and how the growth of the upper and lower jaw bones are relating to each other.
