The Ironwood Ridge boys’ basketball team was looking to remain undefeated in division play when it visited Mountain View on Jan. 24.
Reminded recently by a friend about a canyon hike not yet experienced, my hiking boots were making tracks on Ventana Canyon Trail on a recent mid-January day, with temperatures in the 60s, and the sky cloudless and windless. Two-and-a-half miles ahead with 1,200 feet in elevation gain lies today’s destination, Maiden Pools.

Pusch Ridge did it again. For the third time this year, the Lions (11-4) defeated the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks (4-11), 38-29, in girls’ basketball.
The Canyon Del Oro boys’ varsity soccer team defeated Pusch Ridge Christian Academy 9-0 on Jan 17.
Not many high school basketball players manage to score 1,000 points during their four years of play, but for Marana High School’s Jamee Swan it only took three years.
If this weekend’s games didn’t live up to your expectations as a football fan, I don’t know what will. An unbelievable pair of conference championship games both decided by the kicker’s foot, leads to a New England Patriot and New York Giant Super Bowl rematch.
While defeating the Marana Tigers, 56-43, the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks basketball team (12-0) displayed some of the reasons they are one of two unbeaten teams in Division I play in Arizona.

The Canyon Del Oro Dorados displayed good team balance in defeating Flowing Wells, 63-53, on Jan. 13.
