There are many great spots on the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain to watch the world's 64 best players in action.
Wade Dunagan, director of the World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championship, likes the practice range.
"To me, it's one of the exciting places for the true golfer," Dunagan said. "You get to see them go through their warm-up routines, hit all the different shots in their bag, from wedges to driver. It's within a couple hundred yards of where the bus drop is."
Dunagan also likes the spot between the second, fourth and seventh greens, where a fan can see different groups play different holes.
Jeff McCormick, director of golf operations for the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Dove Mountain, prefers that front-nine location as well. Fans can watch approach shots on 2, 4 and 7, tee shots on 3 and 5, and "if you're on your tippy toes, maybe a tee shot on #8."
The Walter Hagen Club on 13 "was very, very popular last year," and it has expanded viewing opportunities, McCormick said. "I anticipate that's the place to go." At 13, players are "deeper into the match. Maybe the shots are under a little more pressure."
McCormick, Dunagan and Judy McDermott, executive director of the Tucson Conquistadores, each enjoy the Canyon Club, the double-decker structure on 15. "Some of the players try to drive the green on the par 4," McDermott said. "That's where Geoff (Ogilvy) won, so it's memorable, and it's really pretty in that canyon. Once you buy a package, you get free food and beverage."
Another Dunagan favorite – a mound between 14 and 17. Behind the 14th green, a fan gets "a spectacular view of the second shot at a critical point in the match."
