The Pima Community College women’s tennis team (13-4, 6-2 in conference) finished the regular season on a high note on Thursday defeating Paradise Valley Community College 9-0 at the Tucson Racquet Club.

The Aztecs, ranked No. 7 in the National poll, won nine of their last 10 matches and finished the ACCAC conference in second place behind No. 6 Eastern Arizona College.

Vivian Pierson (Catalina HS) and Ashten Watts (Murray HS, UT) played at the No. 1 doubles spot and won 8-2. Pierson has won 12 straight singles matches but did not play in singles competition on Thursday.

Amy Beeston (Lehi HS, UT) played at No. 1 singles and won 6-0, 6-4. Julienne Cananea (Bradshaw Mountain HS) shut out her opponent in the No. 2 singles spot 6-0, 6-0 while Helena Meyer (Nogales HS) won her match at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-3.

“I’m very proud of my team’s performance this season and I believe we have put ourselves in a very good position to win the Regional Tournament and qualify for Nationals,” Pima coach Gretchen Schantz said.

The Aztecs will compete in the Region I, Division I Tournament at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale on Apr. 15-16.
