Next week, the 2011 World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championship will return to Marana, and that means thousands of golf fans will be driving to see their favorite pros compete in the weeklong event.
With parking real estate such a valuable commodity, spectators will have a more enjoyable experience if they know the ins and outs of where to park or pick up the shuttle. Fortunately for returning spectators, the procedures will be about the same as in previous years.
Next Monday and Tuesday will be the warm-up days for the 64 top golfers from around the world. During those first two days, visitors will be directed to park along North Dove Mountain Boulevard.
Starting Wednesday, spectators using the main lot will park in the same area used for the past few years off Tangerine Road, about a mile east of Interstate 10.
From there, a constant cycle of shuttles will take visitors to and from the golf course.
“It is pretty much the same experience as usual,” said Rodney Campbell, the spokesman for the Town of Marana. “One thing that is going to change this year, coming up from Tucson, you will probably take the Twin Peaks Interchange, especially if you are going to park at the course. If you are parking at the main lot, off of Tangerine Road, you will want to take Interstate 10 to Tangerine Road.”
This is the fifth year the tournament has been held in Marana, and the routines have become well-established.
“There are some things that will kind of change from year to year,” Campbell added. “But we’ve got a pretty good formula for success, and it has worked really well for the first four years.”
The Accenture Match Play Championship will take place Feb. 21-27 at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain, in Marana.
