Pusch Ridge Christian Academy was recognized by the Arizona Interscholastic Association for overall excellence, as part of the state’s athletic authority’s annual awards presentations.

AIA Executive Director Harold Slemmer presented Pusch Ridge with the award during the final home game of the football season. The school was also given a commemorative banner.

Pusch Ridge was awarded the Don F. Stone Award for the 2A Conference, winning top honors among 40 high schools statewide. High schools are selected to receive the award based on the total points they accumulate through excellence in fine arts and athletics.

Lonnie Tvrdy, athletic director for Pusch Ridge, recounted the high school’s accomplishments during the 2010-2011 school year. The accomplishments included state championship titles for the boys’ tennis team, final four placement for the boys’ soccer and baseball teams, state runner-up in softball, girls’ soccer and tennis were regional champions, along with the school’s football team.

“This award is a proud moment for our school, and evidence that a coaching philosophy, which emphasizes team growth and servant leadership above individual talent, can lead our small school to the championship level year in and year out,” said Tvrdy.
