PCC Track & Field Regalado Breaks School Record in Glendale

The Pima Community college track & field teams competed in the Glendale Community College Indoor Invitational on Saturday as more National qualifying times were set and one Pima school record was broken.

Nikki Regalado (Cienega HS) earned herself a first place finish and broke the school record for the 3000 meter race with a time of 10 minutes, 42.87 seconds. The record was previously held by Aurora Trujillo set in 2009 (10:50.17). This time also put Regalado eight in the country for this event.

The women’s 4000 distance Medley Relay team of Shelby Slocum (Sahuaro HS), Aly Haskell (Empire HS), Lucia Hernandez (Tucson Magnet HS) and Esther Estrada (Nogales HS) finished in first place with a time of 13:27.39. Makaela Pratt (Willow Canyon HS) took first in the 200 meter race with a time of 26.20.

In men’s competition, Eddie Wilcox (Chandler HS) finished first in the High Jump event with a jump of 2.05 meters. Antonio Jeter took first in the Triple Jump at 14.01 meters while Aaron Orduno (Dobson HS) secured first place in the Weight Throw with a toss of 15.24 meters. Orduno also took second in the Shot Put with a throw of 49’9” which earned him a Nationals qualifying throw.

The 4000 Distance Medley Relay race belonged to the team of Aren Maxwell (Flowing Wells HS), Labriel Leach (Catalina HS), Luis Gonzales (Buena HS) and Alejandro Valencia (Rio Rico HS) who took first place with a time of 10:36.16. Jose Rojas (Rio Rico HS) finished second in the 1000 meter race with a time of 2:40.21 (Nationals qualifying time) and Lance Ross (Flowing Wells HS) placed second in the 200 meter with a Nationals qualifying time of 22.02.

The Aztecs will compete in the Central Arizona College Relays in Coolidge next Saturday. Competition will begin at 10 a.m.
