After the Canyon Del Oro High School boys cross country team won the Sue Fletcher Invitational over Labor Day weekend, they continued their success by capturing second place in the Chandler Invitational last week.

The meet is unique in that team scoring is based on where a team’s top finisher places in each of four classes: freshmen, sophomore, juniors and seniors.

Thirty-six teams ran on the flat, 5-mile course at Tumbleweed Regional Park.

Senior Jacob Rischar took second place with a time of 17 minutes, 38 seconds. Jacob Bruno took sixth place, finishing in 18.22. In the sophomore race, Jordan Hellebuyck took fifth place, finishing in 17:20.

In the junior race, Augie Bruno finished 17th in 18:08. Mike James also got a medal finishing 19th with 18:15.

Lucas Rischar ran 17:13 for a 12th-place medal in the senior race.

The girls’ team also had a strong finish, with Bridgette Doucet taking 14th place in the freshmen race with a time of 22:42.

Sarrah Boughan took fifth place with a time of 20:29, and Abi Bruno came in 13th with 21:14 in the junior race.
