The Pima Community College softball team (13-5, 10-4 in conference) scored 33 runs in two games on Tuesday as the Aztecs swept Paradise Valley Community College at the West Campus.
The Aztecs’ offense sent 15 batters to the plate and exploded for 11 runs in the 3rd inning as they defeated Paradise Valley 18-1 in five innings. Cynthia Pelayo (Vision HS) and Alejandra Ortiz (Tucson Magnet HS) each contributed with 2-run RBI singles and Yvette Alvarez (Sahuarita HS) blasted a 2-run homerun to help her own cause. Shawna Comeaux (Sabino HS) gave the Aztecs the lead in the 1st inning with a 2-run RBI single. The Aztecs tacked on four more runs in the 4th inning. Gemma Contreras hit an RBI single and Alyssa Guevara (Cienega HS) hit an RBI double. Alvarez finished 2 for 2 with four RBIs, three runs scored and two walks. She got the win and improved to 6-4 on the year. Comeaux was 2 for 2 with three RBIs for the game.
In the second game, The Aztecs scored six runs in the second inning to defeat Paradise Valley 15-7 in six innings. Alvarez was at it again as she hit a 2-run homerun to give the Aztecs the 7-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Paradise Valley came back and scored four runs in the 3rd but Pima responded quickly scoring three more runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Alejandra Ortiz (Tucson Magnet) hit an RBI single in that inning. Ortiz finished 4 for 4 with four RBIs. Gemma Contreras (Salpointe Catholic HS) finished the game 4 for 5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. She had an RBI single in the 5th inning. Noelle Medina (San Manuel HS) hit a solo homerun in the 3rd inning and went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Stephanie Vejar (Tucson Magnet HS) earned her seventh win of the season.
The Aztecs will host Monroe College of New York for a doubleheader on Saturday at the West Campus. The first game will start at noon.
