Arizona opened up a scholarship when Zach Peters left basketball due to concussion issues and wasted no time filling it. On Thursday night Boston College transfer Ryan Anderson announced that he was committing to the Wildcats.

Blessed to say that I've committed to Arizona,” Anderson tweeted out. “Bear Down.”

Anderson will sit out next season and be eligible to play one season in 2015-16. He had offseason shoulder surgery but should be good to practice by the start of the season.

The 6-8 forward from Long Beach Poly decided to leave Boston College, in part, because he wanted to play in an NCAA Tournament. With Boston College in a rebuilding process, he felt it best to leave. He visited Iowa State previously and cancelled a visit to Indiana.

He averaged 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds a game last season, often having to play out of position at center. He is a natural four, who has the ability to swing out and play minutes at the three. He could be a very important addition for a Wildcat team that could conceivably lose Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Stanley Johnson Brandon Ashley and Kaleb Tarczewski to the NBA Draft.

Although he may or may not be in an Arizona uniform to play alongside Anderson, one of his teammates next year was very happy to hear of the commitment.

“Great news to my ears,” tweeted Stanley Johnson.
