The women’s soccer team (12-6-1) took control in the second half on Monday to beat No. 6 Chandler-Gilbert Community College 4-1 in the NJCAA Region I, Division I Quarterfinals. The No. 3 seeded Aztecs will play at No. 2 Scottsdale Community College in the semifinals on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Cami Barbera (Ironwood Ridge HS) scored two goals and had one assist in Pima’s win. Ashley Cardenas scored the first goal of the game with an assist from Barbera in the 13th minute. Chandler-Gilbert came back in the 19th with a goal. Kathy Fisher (Sahuaro HS) put the Aztecs up for good when she scored a goal off a corner kick that found the side of the net in the 33rd.
Barbera scored both of her goals in the second half (54th and 79th minutes) to help seal it for Pima. Erika Heredia (Sabino HS) finished the game with seven saves.
The Aztecs are 0-1-1 against Scottsdale this season. They lost 1-2 at Scottsdale and tied with them last Saturday at the West Campus 1-1
