The Pima Community College men’s tennis team (3-7, 2-6 in conference) dropped its final match of the regular season 5-4 at Paradise Valley Community College on Thursday.

The Aztecs played three close doubles matches as Joe Owen (Douglas HS) and Dylan Vo (Ironwood Ridge HS) won at the No. 1 spot 8-7 (7-5 in the tiebreaker). DJ Campas (Douglas HS) and Brian Soto (Nogales HS) fell in the No. 2 doubles match 8-6 while Landon Trejo (St. David HS) and Baldemar Audeves dropped their No. 3 doubles match 8-6 as well.

Vo avoided a third set tiebreaker and won his match at No. 2 singles 6-3, 7-6 (7-1). At No. 3 singles, Audeves won 6-2, 6-0 while Soto won his No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-0.

Owen lost his No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-3 while Campas dropped his No. 4 singles match 6-2, 6-4 and Trejo fell at the No. 6 spot 6-2, 6-4.

“I’m very happy with the progress of the team and individuals over the last three weeks,” Pima coach Brian Ramirez said. “Each team member has shown dedication and played with heart in every match. There is no question we will continue to see progress through the regionals.”

Ramirez started with the program on Mar. 19 when the Aztecs hosted Paradise Valley.

The Aztecs will compete in the Region I, Division I Tournament at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale on Apr. 15-16.
