The Pima Community College football team (2-3, 2-3 in conference) kept it close against No. 16 Scottsdale Community College, but in the end fell 35-28.

The Aztecs outscored Scottsdale in the second half 14-7 after trailing 28-14 at halftime and held Scottsdale’s high-powered offense to 14 points. Scottsdale scored 58 points against Mesa the previous week.

Pima quarterbacks Jack Nykaza and Tyler D’Amore (Ironwood Ridge HS) each scored two rushing touchdowns. Nykaza got the Aztecs on the board with a 2-yard score with 5:21 left in the first quarter. He scored on a 1-yard run later in the third quarter. D’Amore scored his first touchdown with a 1-yard run in the second quarter and again on an 8-yard run with 20 seconds left in the third to make it 35-28. D’Amore had 28 yards on seven carries.

The Aztecs had 561 yards of total offense to Scottsdale’s 334. D’Amore threw for 170 yards and Nykaza threw for 165 yards.

The Aztecs will play at Tucson Magnet High School next Saturday against Glendale Community College at 7 p.m.
