Marana barrel racer Sherry Cervi won her third world title Saturday at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.
Cervi, world champion in 1995 and 1999, became the first barrel racer to crack $2 million in career earnings. This year, she earned just under $300,000. She won three rounds, and placed in a total of seven, at the 10-round NFR this year.
On Wednesday, Cervi broke the Thomas and Mack Center barrel racing record with a run of 13.49 seconds. The NFR has been held at the Las Vegas arena for 25 years.
“This season’s been outstanding, I can’t even explain it,” Cervi told NFR Experience. “I had momentum going into this year from the Finals last year, and it kept going through the year. My horse (Stingray) has worked outstanding, and I’m very grateful for her. She’s a superstar.”
