PCC Women’s Tennis Falls Against Western New Mexico in Opener

The Pima Community College women’s tennis team fell behind 2-1 after doubles competition and lost to Western New Mexico 6-3 on Wednesday at the Tucson Racquet Club.

Helena Meyer (Nogales HS) and Julienne Cananea (Bradshaw Mountain HS) won their No. 3 doubles match over Dena Irvin and Claudia Osuna 8-6. In singles competition, Torie Wake (Lone Peak HS, UT) and Amy Beeston (Lehi HS, UT) got the wins for the Aztecs. Wake defeated Osuna in three sets at the No. 3 singles 3-6, 6-4, (11-9). Beeston beat Doris Berberic 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles match. Vivian Pierson (Catalina HS) had a tough match at the No. 6 singles spot as she lost in three sets 4-6, 6-4, (10-8).

The Aztecs will play at the West Campus on Saturday as they host Imperial Valley College (Calif.) at 2 p.m.
