The men’s basketball team (5-5, 0-4 in conference) couldn’t overcome Central Arizona College in overtime on Saturday in its 93-89 loss at the West Campus.
The Aztecs found themselves trailing late in the second half and after a Marcus Mears’ (Buena HS) missed shot, Terrence Carroll (Cordova HS, TN) recovered the offensive rebound and laid it in to force overtime. The Aztecs were outscored 14-10 in the extra period. In the second half, Central Arizona led by as much as 10 but the Aztecs fought back and took a nine point lead at one time.
Carroll came off the bench to score a game-high 36 points. He had16 after the first half. He also grabbed six rebounds and went 13 for 15 from the free throw line. Rodriguez Tucker (White Station HS, TN) scored 21 points and Lawrence Pierce (Peoria HS) finished with 10 points and six boards. Stephen Hadley (Peoria HS) grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Aztecs will travel to play at Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
