A rising star on Mountain View’s already-potent track squad, junior Donovant Grant carries himself with modesty and a zeal for self-improvement.

Grant won three field events — long, high, and triple jumps—during last week’s meet at Marana as his frog-like 21’ 5 1/2” long jump widened eyes across the stands. But Grant’s not impressed.  He said he’s still a foot off from his best mark.

“I feel like there’s always room to get better,” Grant said.

His ups won last year’s regional high jump title, and placed third in the triple bounce.

Grant should be a favorite for all three events during regional and state competitions, Coach Robert Kennerly said.

“I mean he’s outstanding. And that just sums it up — and getting better, just untapped potential,” Kennerly said.
