The football team (1-6) took on a few occasions in the first half but lost to No. 9 Snow College 45-14 on Saturday in Ephraim, UT. Snow College scored 36 unanswered points.
Quarterback Max Shepherd (Sunrise Mountain HS) got the Aztecs on the board in the first quarter with a 45-yard touchdown run and after Adam Valenzuela’s (Cienega HS) extra-point, the Aztecs led 7-0. In the second quarter, Shepherd found Spencer Grijalva (Douglas HS) in the endzone for a 1-yard touchdown reception which gave Pima a 14-9 lead. Shepherd had 77-yards passing and 50-yards rushing for the game.
On defense, Lopeti Fonokalafi (Kaiser HS), Maurice Chavis (Sabino HS) and Devonttay Jones (Santa Rita HS) each had a sack and Mikell Everette (Kentwood HS) had his third interception of the year.
The Aztecs will host Scottsdale Community College next Saturday at Sahuarita High School. The game will start at 7 p.m.
