The Pima Community College softball team (2-0) began its season in Henderson, NV on Friday as part of the Southern Nevada Kick-Off Classic and came away with two very different wins.

The Aztecs’ offense dominated the first game as they beat El Paso Community College 17-6. Shawna Comeaux (Sabino HS) was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate hitting a 3-run homer and finishing with four runs batted in and two runs scored. Cynthia Pelayo (Vision HS) left her stamp on the game going 4 for 5 with three RBIs, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Alejandra Ortiz (Tucson Magnet HS) also contributed with homerun of her own.

In their second game, the Aztecs trailed 4-0 going into the 6th inning but two big hits helped propel Pima to the 5-4 win over Snow College. Pitcher Yvette Alvarez (Sahuarita HS) hit a 3-run homer in the 6th inning and Pelayo came through again with a 2-run shot with two outs in the Top of the 7th to give the Aztecs the lead for good.

Pima will continue competition in Nevada on Saturday when they play College of Southern Idaho at 8:00 a.m. and Salt Lake Community College at 10:30 a.m.
