The Wildcats’ top prospect, Emmanuel Negedu, requested a release from his letter of intent last weekend, but Arizona coach Lute Olson has yet to grant the forward’s request.
The Nigerian-born recruit cited recent turnover among the Wildcats’ coaching staff and players, according to Negedu’s traveling team coach Mark Adams.
Negedu — among the top 40 players nationwide — was recruited by former Arizona assistant coach Josh Pastner, who last week took a job with Memphis.
Negedu adds to the Wildcats’ list of issues for next season.
Forward Chase Budinger continues to explore his options in the upcoming NBA draft, and guard Nic Wise has expressed interest in a transfer. Incoming freshman Brandon Jennings is short of his NCAA eligibility as well.
If the Negedu were granted his request, then he could become eligible immediately with another college. If not, he’d redshirt his first season at another university.
