A senior mixed doubles tennis team from Heritage Highlands on Dove Mountain has won the Southwest U.S. Tennis Association Championship in El Paso.
The 15-member Highlanders gained the right to represent the Tucson area by winning the local league of 7.0 teams from Saddlebrooke, Tucson Racquet Club, El Conquistador, Westward Look and Randolph Park. It compiled a 9-1 record, losing 10 sets in a total of 30 individual matches.
In El Paso, mixed doubles teams from Phoenix, Flagstaff, Tucson, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Las Cruces and El Paso gathered to fight it out for the right to represent the Southwest in the national championships, to be held April 8-10 in Surprise.
The Highlanders dominated weekend matches, losing one set and 40 games in nine matches.
Team members are Don Black, Jeff Kaumeyer, Alice Howard, Alyson Roeder, Carole Dade, Jerry Stillman, Dee Kaumeyer, Joe Camara, Joanne and John Posluszny, Suzi Paulin, Rachel Rulmyr, Gary Schaefer, Bob LaVahn and Bob VanBuskirk.
