• Learn to protect your dog — and yourself — from rattlesnakes by attending the Marana Parks and Recreation Department’s snake avoidance training session. Dogs learn to use all their senses to detect snakes, using live, defanged Western Diamondback rattlers. Details: 8 to 9:30 a.m.; $57.50 for Marana resident, $60 for non-residents; Heritage House, Large Ramada 12375 N. Heritage Park Drive; for more information, call 382-1950.

• Reserve your spot now for a breezy 2-mile hike along the Bowen Trail, where you’ll view stunning saguaro-studded hillsides along with prickly pear and cholla stands. Also visit the ruins of the Old Stone House before heading out. Details: 9 a.m. to noon; free for ages 12 and older; Pima County Tucson Mountain Park, 3645 W. Starr Pass Blvd. (across from resort); reservations required; for more information, call 616-7855 or e-mail eeducation@pima.gov.
