The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (9-9, 5-4) kept it close and had the lead in the second half but No. 5 Mesa Community College came away with the 56-53 win on Wednesday at the West Campus’ Aztec Gym. The loss snapped a four-game conference winning streak for Pima.
Mesa took a 33-24 lead with 15:00 left in the game but the Aztecs came back with a 10-0 run and took a 34-33 lead. The Aztecs led 39-37 with 9:11 to go and later trailed by two points with 1:34 to go.
A’jha Edwards (Tombstone HS), last week’s ACCAC Division II Player of the Week, finished the game with eight points, 16 rebounds and two blocks while Mya Perrow-Donovan (Ironwood Ridge HS) and Ashlei Scott each finished with eight points.
The Aztecs will have a week off as they come back to the West Campus to host Cochise College on Wednesday, Jan. 16. The game will be at 5:30 p.m.
