Ok, so it has been more than a week since Pusch Ridge Christian Academy senior Daniel Vavrusa smacked a single to center field to knock in the Lions' first two runs in a 15-5 mercy rule state championship victory over San Manuel.
The Czech Republic-born senior's athletic finale at Pusch Ridge registers as a timeless finish to a brief but stellar career for the Lions in both baseball and football.
Vavrusa received high praise from coaches in both sports.
"He plays just about everywhere," said head baseball coach Doug Jones earlier this year. "He's going to be catching for us, do a little pitching, be in the infield and outfield.
"He's a real asset," Jones added.
Head football coach Bob Vance also saw something special in the senior. When listing highlights from his first year as head coach, Vance made special mention of Vavrusa.
"Guys like Daniel Vavrusa — contributing to the team, playing football for the first time and making touchdowns," said Vance. "We laughed, we had fun, just a great year."
Although Vavrusa's school year, and possibly his residency in the United States, may end with his participation in a foreign exchange program, he can look back on a season in which he won a baseball championship and impressed coaches.
And coaches weren't the only people to be impressed by Vavrusa.
Earlier this year, after only three months at Pusch Ridge, fellow students voted Vavrusa homecoming king.
Hopefully the crown will make it through airport security.
