PCC Volleyball Finishes Regular Season with Win

The volleyball team (14-12) celebrated Sophomore Night at the West Campus’ Aztec Gym after defeating South Mountain Community College in three sets (25-23, 25-21, 25-20) as Friday to close out the regular season on a 3-match winning streak.

The Aztecs never trailed in the first set and held on to win it. In the second set, Pima trailed but scored five straight points to take a 19-16 lead to help seal it. The Aztecs scored six straight points and later had five straight to pull away for good and take the match.

Kami Humphrey (Canyon del Oro HS) led the Aztecs with 33 assists, eight digs and four kills. Shaysea Alba (Safford HS) had eight kills and two blocks while Cheryl Montague (Academy of Tucson HS) finished with nine kills.

Sophomores Kaylee Rakowski (Sahuarita HS), Cheryl Montague (Academy of Tucson HS), Julia Escarcega (Rincon HS), Kendra Hall (Empire HS), Shaysea Alba (Safford HS), Kami Humphrey (Canyon del Oro HS) and Kalyn Humphrey (Canyon del Oro HS) were honored after the game for their contributions to Pima volleyball.

The NJCAA Region I, Division II tournament begins on Thursday. The Aztecs, a No. 3 seed will play No. 2 Phoenix College at 5 p.m. at Glendale Community College.
