The 2012 softball and baseball seasons are entering the homestretch, with only two weeks left in the regular season. There are some clear favorites that are getting ready to make a playoff run.

Softball

Canyon Del Oro is leading the race with an 18-4 record, ranking them seventh in the state. So far, the Dorados have dominated competition within their region with a 6-1 record.

The Dorados, the reigning state champions, have been led by the strong play and pitching of Alexis Alfonso.

The Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks have earned a 15-4 record thus far. They are ranked 11th in state, and have had their struggles in their region with a 4-2 record.

The Mountain View Mountain Lions, currently 10-4 and 4-1 in region have had their ups and downs this season. They have dominated weaker opponents, but struggle when it comes to superior opponents. When the Mountain Lions win, they win big.

The Marana Tigers have a 7-7 record and have been solid with a 4-2 record within their region. They currently aren’t ranked in the top 50 in the state and need to string together some wins to make a run in the playoffs.

Baseball

As the softball season winds down, so does baseball season. These closing weeks are crucial for each team with such a close race for the top seed.

The Mountain View Mountain Lions are leading the way with a 15-5 record, 6-2 within the region. There is no room for error at this point in the season and the Mountain Lions must maintain their strong play.

The Marana Tigers, 13-5 and 4-2 in their region have been slipping of late. The Tigers will have to return to their strong play if they want to pass the Mountain Lions.

Ironwood Ridge has been solid, with a 13-5 record, 5-3 in their region. Behind Mountain View and tied with Marana, the Nighthawks have their work cut out for them.

Canyon Del Oro is trailing the pack with a 13-6 record, 6-3 in their region.
