Anthony Bass pitched seven shutout innings and allowed just three Zephyrs to reach base as the Tucson Padres defeated New Orleans 7-3 Sunday at Kino Stadium. The Padres won the series three games to one, batting .314 and scoring 24 runs during the four games.

Tucson sent ten batters to the plate in the opening inning, scoring five runs on five hits. The first run scored on Mike Wilson’s RBI single, followed by a fielding error by second baseman Nick Green to score two more. Eddy Rodriguez and Bass hit back-to-back RBI singles for the Padres final two runs of the inning. The Padres scored eight first-inning runs during the series against New Orleans.

Wilson’s second RBI single of the game in the bottom of the second extended Tucson’s lead to 6-0. The Zephyrs got on the scoreboard in the eighth, compiling three runs on five hits. The Padres answered with a run in the bottom of the eighth when Daniel Robertson scored on a double play. Robertson had three hits Sunday, bringing his series total to nine in the four games.

Bass earned his third win of season while allowing three hits and no walks while striking out seven. The right-hander retired ten straight batters to close his outing and also collected two hits at the plate for his second-career multi-hit game. Brad Brach pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to record his third save for the Padres. Jared Rogers took the loss for New Orleans after allowing five hits, three earned runs and two walks in one plus inning of work.

Next Game: Monday, 7:05 p.m. vs. Oklahoma City (Astros affiliate) – Oklahoma City RHP Paul Clemens (2-0, 2.08) vs. Tucson RHP Matt Andriese (1-5, 4.14). Game coverage begins at 6:55 pm on 1290 AM The Source and tucsonpadres.com.
