Thornydale 9-10 Softball All Stars

The Thornydale 9-10 Softball All Star team is the 2012 Arizona District 5 Champion. Thornydale breezed through the D5 All Star tournament undefeated. They posted wins over Tanque Verde 18 to 8 and Continental Ranch 16 to 0. Tanque Verde came up through the losers bracket to face Thornydale in the Championship game on July 2nd at Mehl Park. Thornydale won 10 to 0 in 4 innings to take the Championship banner home to Arthur Pack Park, home of Thornydale Little League.

Thornydale was dominant in the circle with the pitching of Zaylie Calderon. Returning from the 2011 Thornydale 9-10 Softball All Star team that won the District championship is Zaylie, catcher Carmen Cordova, 2nd base Kaylah Thompson, 1st base and relief pitcher Madison Brown and 3rd base Jessica Niegocki

New to All Stars this year and being an integral part of the teams run through District are: Ennovy Alvarez, Abigail Colvin, Raina Molina, Marisella Sandoval, Haliey Tellez, Ayanna VAlenzuela and Jordynn Vanderwerf

Thronydale 9-10’s advance to the Arizona State tournament which will be held in Tucson at Crossroads Park beginning July 16th.

Thornydale 10-11 Softball All Stars

The Thornydale 10-11 Softball All Star team faced the Marana 10-11 team in a best of 3 series for the Arizona District 5 Championship. Thornydale won 15 to 5 on June 28th behind the pitching of Shaylee Sanders and Kelynn Campbell. They beat Marana 27 to 17 on June 29th to win the D5 Championship.

The catcher for both games was Vivianna Frank, also pitching and leading the team in hits and runs scored was Ariah Mattes. Aspen Bratton, Campbell Gallegos, Elaine Colvin, Tayler Garner, Neveah Gonzales, Emma Janes, Adrianna Ruiz and Jessica Williamson make up the rest of the team and have played an important part in winning the District 5 Championship banner.

Thornydale advances to the Arizona State Tournament in Benson beginning July 16th.

Thornydale Major Softball All Stars

The Thornydale Major Softball All Star team completed play with a 2 and 2 record. They lost to Marana 10 to 11 on June 25th. They won the next 2 games, 14 to 4 over Canyon View and 14 to 5 over Marana when they faced them again on June 29th. They played the Championship game on July 2nd versus Continental Ranch. They took an early lead but lost to the Continental Ranch hitters 8 to 6'.

Pitchers for Thornydale were Jessica Giacoma and Alexis Vanderwerf. Catchers were Kelsey Hawkins, Sierra Ornelas and Kelly Ryan. All 5 are returning All Stars from 2011. Also returning from the 2011 District 5 Championship team were Danielle Bruyn, Rylee Hernandez, Sarrah Hugues and Samantha Quezada. Contributing to the overall success of the Majors team were Rebekah Dow and Bailey Erickson.
