Match play reaches out to military

U.S. military personnel can watch the world's finest golfers at no charge in February, when the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship tournament unfolds at the Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain Feb. 15-21.

This week, tournament officials said they would offer military personnel and their families free admission, a private hospitality venue and a military appreciation celebration that Friday, Feb. 19.

"We are so happy to announce these initiatives to honor the brave men and women of the U.S. military who call the Tucson area home," said Executive Director Wade Dunagan. "The Accenture Match Play Championship is one of the most elite events in all of golf, and we want to do all we can to help members of the military enjoy a unique experience here at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain and see the best golfers in the world up close and personal."

As part of the PGA Tour's Birdies for the Brave outreach initiative, the tournament will provide all active duty, retired and reserve military with complimentary admission to the Accenture Match Play Championship any one day of the event.

Active duty military are also invited to bring their families to the event free of charge. Retired military wishing to bring family members or attend more than one day can purchase tickets at the gate at 50 percent off.

Complimentary tickets may be obtained in advance through the office of Morale, Wellness and Recreation at Davis Monthan Air Force Base, or may be picked up at the gate by showing a valid Military ID.

In addition, a special military hospitality chalet will provide military guests with complimentary food and beverages from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, through Saturday, Feb. 20, and complimentary beverages on Sunday, Feb. 21.
