PCC Women’s Tennis in First Place After Day One

The Pima Community College women’s tennis team sits in first place in team competition after the first day of the Region I Tournament at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale.

The Aztecs have a team-score of 12 points but close behind is Eastern Arizona College with 10. Mesa Community College is in third place with four points.

Every singles player for Pima advanced to the finals in their respective spots and the doubles teams advanced to the semifinals.

Helen Altieri (Kofa HS) and Kari Emery (Flowing Wells HS) won their No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches 6-0, 6-0. Julienne Cananea (Bradshaw Mountain HS) and Vivian Pierson (Catalina HS) won in their No. 5 and No. 6 matches 6-1, 6-0. Pierson extended her singles winning streak to 13 matches.

Torie Wake (Lone Peak HS), UT) won her match in No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-3 while Amy Beeston (Lehi HS), UT) was victorious at No. 4 6-1, 6-1.

Competition at the Paseo Racquet Center will conclude on Tuesday.
