Sun City Vistoso has a newly named golf course that's now open to the public.

"The Views Golf Club" describes "what is unique and special about our course," a release said of the 1555 E. Rancho Vistoso location.

"It didn't really have a name," said Robin Coulter, director of communications and administration at Sun City Vistoso. "It was really the Sun City Vistoso Golf Course. We're trying to create an identity out there."

The homeowners association in Sun City Vistoso recognized a national decline in golf rounds, a "misconception that Sun City golf courses are easy, flat courses," and a desire to open the course to the public. When it was built, it was open to the public, and has had private and semi-private status since, Coulter said.

The Views Golf Club was chosen "after much study and deliberation," the release said. The par-72 course has elevated greens, multiple tee placements, fairways tucked into the desert and 360-degree views of the Santa Catalina and Tortolita mountain ranges.

The Views Golf Club is located at 1555 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd., Oro Valley. Its phone number is 825-3110.
