Walnut, Calif. – The University of Arizona Wildcat No. 17 men’s and No. 11 women’s track and field teams had an outstanding evening at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. Hilmer Lodge Stadium is where the Wildcats ran on Thursday. Four of the five student-athletes that competed had personal-best times while the fifth ran the No. 2 time of her career.

Redshirt junior Elvin Kibet clocked a personal-best time 32:40.22 in the women’s 10K “invitational elite section.” Kibet’s time is No. 2 in UA history and just nine seconds off the UA record. Her time is also No. 2 in the country this year, No. 1 in the west region and No. 1 in the Pac-12.

“Coming out of injury it's been hard working my way up” Kibet said. Actually, I didn't think I could run that fast today. My plan was just to stay with the leading pack and see what I can do. I am so happy to be injury free and healthy and I am not taking that for granted, I definitely appreciate it. This race is definitely a confidence booster for me and now I can go into championship races having more confidence.”

Junior Stephanie Bulder ran the 10K in the “silver elite section” and posted a personal-best time of 34:35.63. Bulder’s previous best was 35:19.11. Her time is currently No. 21 in the west region and No. 9 in the Pac-12.

Senior Amanda Russell ran the 10K in the “open A section” and clocked a personal-best time of 35:12.01. That time was good for fourth place overall. Russell’s previous personal-best time was 36:29.01.

In the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase “open B section,” senior Erin Menefee had a time of 10:44.12, the No. 2 time of her career. Menefee finished the race in sixth place overall.

Redshirt sophomore Thomas Valente had a personal-best time of 9:09.35 in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase “open section B.” Valente’s previous personal best was 9:13.12.

The Wildcat distance runners will return to action at the Mt. SAC Relays tomorrow.
