The football team (1-3) had the lead at halftime against Arizona Western, No. 3 team in the nation, but couldn’t hold on in the second half as the Aztecs lost 32-14 on Saturday at Kino Stadium.

The Aztecs fell behind early after Arizona Western scored on its opening drive but the Aztecs fought back to tie it in the first quarter. Adam Valenzuela (Cienega HS) hit a pair of field goals from 29 and 34 yards and they earned a safety on a fumbled kickoff return. In the second quarter, the Aztecs took the lead after quarterback Quinn Rollerson (Midwestern St. HS) scored on a 3-yard keeper. Rollerson connected with Spencer Grijalva (Douglas HS) for a 30-yard gain to help set up the score.

Pima led 14-11 at halftime. The Aztecs turned the ball over three times in the second half and Arizona Western scored 21 unanswered points. The Aztecs will play its fourth home game in as many weeks next Saturday as they host Phoenix College at Kino Stadium. The Aztecs lost to Phoenix College 17-14 in the first week of the season.
