The Reno Aces came back from a three-run deficit to score four runs in the ninth inning and defeat the Tucson Padres 4-3 Saturday at Aces Ballpark.
The Padres struck first in the top of third when Andy Parrino scored on a fielding error by Aces second baseman Tyler Bortnick. Vince Belnome followed with a line drive single to center field scoring Jedd Gyorko to put Tucson up 2-0. Blake Tekotte put down a suicide squeeze bunt in the top of the eighth to score Eddy Rodriguez from third and increase Tucson’s lead to 3-0.
Jason Ray attempted to close out his fourth consecutive save for Tucson, but surrendered a game-tying, three-run home run to Brent Clevlen. Reno’s Ryan Budde reached first on an infield single and later advanced to third base on two wild pitches. With two outs and a full count, Ray walked A.J. Pollock with the bases loaded to score Budde and end the game.
The blown save was Ray’s second with Tucson and his third loss of the season.
Padres starting pitcher Josh Spence pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and three walks. Mike DeMark earned his fifth win for the Aces, throwing a scoreless top of the ninth.
