Jorge Reyes pitched six innings in his home state Tuesday and allowed three runs, as the Tucson Padres beat the Tacoma Rainiers at Cheney Stadium, 4-3. The Padres scored once in the second inning on Jeremy Hermida's RBI double and added three more runs in the fourth. Anthony Contreras hit an RBI double, Vince Belnome drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and Rocky Gale hit a ground ball that second baseman Carlos Truinfel misplayed, allowing the fourth Padres run to score.
Tacoma had chances to tie the game late, leaving runners on in scoring position in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Nick Vincent, Cory Burns and Erik Hamren tossed a scoreless inning each for the Padres to close the game. The Padres have now won five of their last seven games. Tuesday's game began a stretch of nine consecutive matchups between the Padres and Rainiers, who will meet for a five game series at Kino Stadium beginning Saturday, July 28.
Contreras went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Hermida went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Tacoma has lost seven consecutive games.
