Tucson Padres Game Summary

Tucson 7 Las Vegas 5 - Wednesday

WP: Hynes (3-6)

LP: Everts (0-1)

S: Hamren (1)

Time: 2:27

Sawyer Carroll's leaping catch at the wall ended an exciting game at Kino Stadium Wednesday, as the Tucson Padres beat the Las Vegas 51s, 7-5. The Padres carried a two-run lead into the ninth when Eric Thames led off the inning with a single to left field. Erik Hamren retired the next two hitters but allowed a single and a walk with two outs to load the bases. Travis Snider, who hit a home run earlier in the night, lofted a ball to right that appeared to be going over Carroll's head, but the Padres right fielder jumped on the warning track, collided with the wall and held onto the ball to end the game.

The Padres scored five runs in the second inning Tuesday to go ahead 5-1, sending nine batters to the plate in the rally. Las Vegas climbed back with three in the third and one in the fourth to tie the game. Clint Everts, who had shut out the Padres in four previous outings this season, entered in the sixth and allowed two Padres runs on three hits. After scoring those two runs in the sixth, the Padres bullpen held onto the 7-5 lead, with Jason Ray, Miles Mikolas and Hamren pitching a scoreless inning each.

The Padres have now won two of their last three games after a stretch in which they lost 10 consecutive games. Yasmani Grandal went 3-for-4 with three singles and Anthony Contreras went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the T-Pads. Contreras may be the hottest hitter on the team right now, with hits in nine of his last 12 at bats.
