Tyler Bortnick’s ninth-inning RBI single handed the Reno Aces their third straight
walk-off victory and ended the Tucson Padres second season with a 2-1 loss Monday at
Aces Ballpark.
The game featured a pitchers duel between Reno’s Joe Martinez and Padres pitcher
Thad Weber. Both starting pitchers threw seven innings, each allowing only one run.
A.J. Pollock scored Reno’s first run in the opening inning on a RBI single to
center field. Sawyer Carroll evened the score for Tucson with a solo home run over
the right field wall in the fourth inning. The home run was his third of the road
trip and eighth of the season.
In the bottom of the ninth, Aces infielder Wladimir Sutil lined a double to right field and was followed by an intentional walk to Tyler Kuhn. Bortnick then grounded a single into right field to score Sutil for the game-winning run. Neil Wagner took the loss for Tucson, his second of the season.
The Padres end the season with a 56-88 record and a fourth place finish in the Pacific Coast League Southern Division.
