The Tucson Padres have won five games in a row for the first time in 2012, beating the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Thursday, 7-4. The Padres took a first inning lead on Yasmani Grandal's RBI single and scored four more times in the sixth to go ahead 5-0. Anthony Contreras hit a two-run home run during the Padres ten-batter sixth inning.
Colorado Springs scored four runs on five hits in the top of the seventh against Bear Bay and Cory Burns, but the Sky Sox could not catch the Padres, who never relinquished their lead. Sawyer Carroll lined an RBI single over shortstop Tommy Field in the seventh and Contreras added another insurance run with an RBI single in the eighth.
Bay picked up his second win with the Padres, pitching 6.2 innings, allowing three runs while striking out six. Matt Clark went 3-for-5 with a double and Grandal went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Contreras now has an 11-game hitting streak. Erik Hamren pitched a scoreless eighth inning setting up for closer Brad Brach, who grabbed his second Triple-A save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
