Tucson Padres Game Summary

Tucson 1 Tacoma 0 - Thursday

WP: Hynes (5-8)

LP: Mitchell (0-1)

S: Hamren (8)

Time: 2:30

Attn: 4,589

Three Tucson Padres pitchers combined to throw a 1-0 shutout at Cheney Stadium Thursday, the team's fourth shutout of the season. Colt Hynes had his best start of the season, scattering only three hits in seven shutout innings. Cory Burns pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Erik Hamren was aided by a game-ending double play for his sixth save. With Tacoma's Nick Franklin at first base with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Justin Smoak hit a hard line drive to shortstop. Andy Parrino caught the liner and threw to first base, doubling off Franklin and ending the game.

The Padres lone run came on a second inning RBI double by Sawyer Carroll, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles in the game. Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-4 in the win for Tucson. The Padres have won six of their last nine games, including five of seven on their current road trip.

Tacoma's D.J. Mitchell pitched well in his first Mariners' organization appearance, allowing one run in five innings of work. Mitchell was traded to Seattle from the New York Yankees three days ago in the Ichiro Suzuki trade. Thursday was the first 1-0 game of the Tucson Padres season.
