The Broadway stages of New York City may be over two thousand miles away, but, on December 8, 9, and 20, Broadway comes to Tucson with two shows atUA Centennial Hall, December Dec 8 at 7pm and Dec 9 at 2pm, and two shows at Saddlebrooke's DesertView Performing Arts Center on Thursday, December 20th at 4:00pm and 7:30pm. For four consecutive years, Tucson area audiences have embraced this spectacular heart-warming Broadway-style dance and music production as a new favorite holiday tradition.
Â
Tammy Booth, an award winning choreographer and former Radio City Music
Hall Rockette, is artistic director and owner of Tucson Dance Academy. She
and her husband, musician/singer/songwriter, Tom Booth, direct over 100
performers from the prestigious Tucson Dance Academy along with guest
performers from across the country in this holiday spectacle. Â Recalling
the show's history, Tammy Booth said, "Since 2008, our audience has been
growing year after year and it's become a holiday tradition for many. This
year, we're excited to add another venue at DesertView Center for the
Performing Arts, in Saddlebrooke, where some of our most loyal fans
reside." Booth's husband and the show's host, Tom Booth added, "The Spirit
of Christmas is unique to Tucson and it's a solid holiday entertainment
alternative to the Nutcracker option. We have Santa Claus, Rudolf, the
Grinch, the "Tucson Rockettes" and special musical guests to form a show
that will please everyone with its variety."
Â
On a stage resplendent with beautiful costuming and sets, The Spirit of
Christmas comes alive with a high energy program, featuring high stepping
kick lines and amazing international dance and guest performance numbers,
along with a moving and meaningful tribute to the meaning of the season.Â
Perennial audience favorite numbers will return this year, including
"Parade of the Wooden Soldiers", "Russian Dance", "He Was Still her Little
Child",and a guest performance by the internationally renowned Apache hoop
dancer, Tony Duncan, who creates incredibly intricate designs in a
seemingly impossible athletic and artistic display. Moving with rigid
stiff-legged military precision, the dancers of "Parade of the Wooden
Soldiers," maintain perfectly straight lines while moving in unison
through ever-shifting  configurations that culminate with an awe-inspiring
ending  that resembles human dominoes.  "Russian Dance" is a high-flying
take on the classic Thaikovsky number that thrills audiences with non-stop
daring acrobatics. Â The Centennial show will feature singer songwriter
Danielle Rose, whose pure, delicate voice lends itself to her unique blend
of southern gospel and bluegrass styles, while the Saddlebrook show will
feature singer Alice Tatum, a 30 year fixture of the Phoenix music scene
who's performed alongside Michael McDonald, Tom Scott, The Righteous
Brothers, Bonnie Raitt, Alice Cooper and Nancy Wilson.
Â
For the UA Centennial show, tickets are $30, with discounts for children,
seniors, military and groups (10+). Â Tickets may be purchased at
