Though Camp Conquistador will not be offered this summer, kids wishing to attend tennis camp at the El Conquistador Resort and Country Club may still do so.

The El Conquistador Country Club, 10555 N. La Cañada Drive, will hold its annual weeklong tennis camps, for all kids 18 and under.

Jennifer Fuchs, who is the director of tennis for the El Conquistador Resort and Country Club, started holding tennis camps in the late 90s, and has continued to do so every summer since then.

For four days a week, from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m., Fuchs and her team match up with a 1-4 or 1-5 ratio of instructor to student to give the best possible instruction.

“The big reason why the kids do learn is because we don’t have eight kids on a court with one coach because it’s not worth the money and it’s not worth your time,” Fuchs said.

The camp accepts all ranges of talent from beginner to expert.

“We work with all ages and levels,” Fuchs said “Last year we had a 4-year-old girl who started the first week and did every single day for the rest of the summer. We have some kids that are playing in national tournaments. So we are working with every level at the same time.”

Week after week and year after year, kids have returned to the camp to receive quality and committed instruction. Fuchs said they make sure the students have a good time while they are learning, but making sure the students are constantly improving.

“I think that we usually have an incredibly great core of kids. And the main philosophy of the program is that everybody treats each other with respect. Everybody comes here and they are comfortable.”

Tennis camp begins May 28 and for the first week runs Tuesday through Friday. For the remaining summer, the camp runs every Monday through Thursday. For two hours of instruction a day, the camp costs $90-$100 per week.
