In an effort to recognize some of the community’s outstanding  youth, the Oro Valley Town Council recently recognized Copper Creek fourth grader Michael Chen.

On Monday, October 15, at 6 p.m., the Oro Valley Police and the Amphitheater School District will host parent’s night at Canyon Del Oro High School.

Students and recent graduates from Canyon del Oro High School filed into a funeral chapel June 4 to say goodbye to Gary Durrenberger - the seventh Northwest student to die this school year in an accident involving a teenage driver.

School starts earlier and gets out later this year at Ironwood Ridge and Canyon Del Oro high schools.

August 30, 2006 - Willie Dudley believes his Marana High School football team can challenge for a state title. So, too, do the coaches from Canyon Del Oro, Ironwood Ridge, Pusch Ridge and, well, practically all of the teams from the Northwest and Foothills.

May 11, 2005 - With Canyon Del Oro High School's girls softball team knotted at three with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, and final, inning against Sahuaro High School in the championship game of the Class 5A Southern Region Tournament, Dana Alcocer stood, poised in the batter's box, the model of cool, calm collectiveness.

On New Year's Eve, when the rest of the teenage world will be either partying or attempting to do so in spite of parental admonishments, Anthony Herman will be conducting the Ironwood Ridge High School Marching Band in front of a crowd of 50,000 at Diamond Walnut San Francisco Bowl Game. It will be cold and foggy, as San Francisco is during the winter, and pretty crowded: the Nighthawks band is one of seven who've been invited to play during the half-time show.

Hank Rowe went spelunking and kayaking with preeteens when he taught at Amphitheater Middle School.

In March, the Oro Valley Police Department School Resource Officers Unit began an investigation involving a possible inappropriate relationship between a high school teacher at Ironwood Ridge High School and a female student.

April 27, 2005 - The smell of garlic is strong against a backdrop of homemade marinara. Freshly grated mozzarella cheese fills silver bowls as sharp knives slice through slabs of pepperoni. But this is no pizza parlor, it's a classroom.

Amphitheater School District

As Tucson celebrates the national YWCA's annual Week Without Violence, students at Harelson Elementary School will participate in activities that promote peace.

The Oracle School District is floating a $13 million bond request to its taxpayers in November (or October, if you have an early ballot) that carries a debt service of over $6.7 million, or over 51 percent, of the base bond. Total cost : $19.6 million.

AMPHITHEATER SCHOOL DISTRICT

February 1, 2006 - Conny Culver said she believes a balance between preservation and growth is the key to Oro Valley's future. Her initiative and dedication during her two years on the Oro Valley town council have already made a real difference, she said.

It's an ordinary school day, and a schoolteacher is teaching an ordinary subject to elementary school children.

Some custodians within Amphitheater School District say they are having to cut corners in cleaning due to recent budget cuts that forced the district to eliminate several positions within the district.
