The Tucson Mall is having a Diaper Derby on Saturday, July 19 at the Center Court from 1 to 3 p.m. Parents must donate diapers to register their children and will then receive a number to be pinned to their child’s diaper or outfit. Tucson Values Teachers and OfficeMax have partnered to shine a spotlight on individual teachers who bring that extra something special into the classroom. Tucson Values Teachers presented their May 2014 Teacher Excellence Award to Mellodie Stratman, special education teacher at Coyote Trail Elementary School in the Marana Unified School District. Ms. Stratman received the award, a $100 gift card from OfficeMax, and a Ben’s Bell.

Tucson shopping centers Park Place and Tucson Mall will open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday, Nov. 29, the biggest shopping day of the year. Holiday sales in the U.S. are expected to increase 3.9 percent to $602.1 billion, according to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey. Additionally, early birds and those walking off a big meal are welcome to visit the many stores that will be open by 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
