Last week, the Marana Unified School District held its annual district-wide spelling bee at Mountain View High School.

During the Arizona State Forensics Competition held at Canyon Del Oro High School on April 21, CDO took first place.

High school marching bands from across Southern Arizona are coming to Ironwood Ridge High School this Saturday, Oct. 31, for an invitational band competition.

Volunteers are needed at this year’s Mathcounts competitions set for Feb. 14 and March 14.

CDO's Academic Decathlon team competed in the 29th Arizona State Academic Decathlon finals last weekend at ASU West Campus. Led by strong performances by Jake Rockland, Rebecca Gosla, and Maria Elena Pakulis, CDO finished a strong second, behind Mesa Red Mountain, and well ahead of third-place Mesa Mountain View. Forty schools participated. The highlight of the competition (for us) was an exciting victory in the Super Quiz Relay, which is the public portion of the competition. In the relay, CDO finished well ahead of second-place Boulder Creek High School and third-place Red Mountain. 

Heading into the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) ranked as number five in the world, Marana’s Sherry Cervi, 37, said she discovered her love for barrel racing at a young age.

After taking first place in a local competition, three students from Canyon Del Oro High School are going to represent Arizona in the Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Culinary Arts Competition.

The Canyon Del Oro High School Academic Decathlon team won its second state title last weekend during competition in Phoenix.

A team from Painted Sky Elementary School in Oro Valley has qualified to compete in the Odyssey of the Mind 2011 World finals in College Park, Maryland.  The third and fourth graders qualified by excelling in regional and state competitions held earlier this year.

The finals of the Second Annual Lois Trester Piano Competition will take place on Monday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Crowder Hall in the University of Arizona’s School of Music Building. The competition awards more than $4,000 in prizes to students currently enrolled as piano majors at the University of Arizona.

For several years, Marana has been fighting for the right to operate and manage its own portion of the public sewer utility. Pima County has been allowed to hold a near-monopoly on the operation and management of the public sewer utility throughout the county since 1979. All development with a density higher than one residence per acre requires a sewer hookup, so Pima County’s control of the public sewer utility has effectively allowed it to dictate land use decisions throughout the county.
