While the Town of Oro Valley will retain all current council members until at least June of next year, the Town of Marana will have a busy election season come March, when four incumbents and two challengers will compete to earn a seat on council. 

On Tuesday, May 17, Marana residents will be voting on the General Plan, and a proposal to renew the town's Trico Electric Cooperative, Inc. franchise agreement.

The Pima County Elections Department has completed a final tally of votes from the recent election. Now it's up to the Oro Valley Town Council to certify the results.

The following are overviews of the candidates in the Sept. 10 primary election races. Uncontested major and third party candidates will automatically advance to the general election Nov. 5. Contending one and maybe two congressional races were stolen from them, Republican legislators have approved a measure to finesse election laws to keep out the Libertarians who they say are taking votes from their candidates.

Marana voters have until May 21 to decide whether or not they will support a solo ballot measure relating to the town’s home rule option.

With the Marana election less than a week away, Town officials estimate they have only recieved about 20 percent of the ballots back.

There were a few surprises for everyone in the November 6 elections, but only one bit of post-election news left me stunned. On election day, Mitt Romney was so sure he was going to win, he didn’t bother to write a concession speech. He had to throw one together in the hour before he went on stage to acknowledge he lost and congratulate the reelected President. Paul Ryan, who is supposed to be a serious number cruncher, also thought the Romney-Ryan team had it pretty much sewn up, as did their campaign staffs and the gaggle of pundits at Fox News. How could they all have been so wrong?

We’re closing in on election season. With this being a presidential election year you can bet that there will be plenty of scrambling by both candidates as November 6th draws nearer. Political party affiliations aside, there is one thing I think we might all agree on: that those with intrusive campaign habits aren’t winning any voters.
