While there were some technical issues at the start of the show, it didn’t take long for country star Dwight Yoakam to get the crowd excited at the Fox Theater last week in Tucson.

When the multinational cast of Up with People takes the stage at Fox Tucson Theatre in downtown Tucson on Saturday at 7 p.m., audience members should find something for every musical taste and interest.

An economic impact study recently completed for the Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation concludes that the Fox Theatre brings approximately $3.4 million in “direct spending” to downtown Tucson annually. Of that, nearly half is spent at downtown businesses other than the Fox. The biggest beneficiaries are restaurant and bar establishments, where Fox patrons spend $1.2 million annually.

Throughout his time at Canyon Del Oro High School and in working toward his degree from the University of Arizona, Clark Jewett’s life has slowly been preparing him for this month. On May 17 and 18, his musical will be performed at Fox Theatre.

The Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation will host the second annual Chasing Rainbows Gala on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Fox Tucson Theatre (17 West Congress Street). The gala, a fundraiser for The Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation, is named after the classic film, Chasing Rainbows (starring Jack Benny), the first film that shown in this vintage movie palace back on opening night in 1930.

The Tucson Police Department will be supporting the Second Annual “Stand Up to Stop Violence” comedy fundraiser by collecting new or gently used stuffed animals. Between Aug. 8 and Sept. 2, officers from the Tucson Police Department will accept the stuffed animals from citizens.

The Arizona International Film Festival has returned and is celebrating its 20th birthday. The festival kicked off on Friday, April 1, with a screening of American filmmaker Frederick Marx’s “Journey from Zanskar” at the Fox Theatre.

Tucson Jazz Society will present legendary vocalist/pianist Diane Schuur, along with The Jeff Daniel Group, on Friday, April 8, at 8 p.m. at the Fox Tucson Theatre.
